Former NBA player and current ESPN college basketball analyst Adrian Branch will lead two weeks of basketball camps at the Fourth Presbyterian School’s 2012 Fourth Summer Programs. In the last two weeks of June, Branch, assisted by coaches from the surrounding community, will lead Monday through Friday all day camps for 3rd through 8th grade boys and girls.
Branch was raised in the D.C. area and played basketball at the University of Maryland where he was the third all-time leading scorer and led the team to the Sweet 16 in 1984 and 1985 as well as the ACC championship in 1984. He averaged 16.4 points and 74.8 percent on free throws through four seasons with the Terps. In his senior season of 1984-85, he had career highs of 671 points and 45 steals in 37 games. He was a two-time All-America honorable mention and in 2004, he was named an ACC Legend.
Branch played high school basketball at the same time as Michael Jordan, and the two played together in the McDonald’s All-American game, for which Branch received the MVP award. After being drafted in the 2nd round of the NBA draft, he went on to win an NBA Championship with the Los Angeles Lakers in 1987.
Branch joined ESPN in 2007 as a college basketball analyst. He devotes much of his time to speaking with students, youth groups, and collegiate and professional sports teams. The Fourth Presbyterian School is a Christ-centered school for children from Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade, adding preschool for 3 year olds in fall 2012.
