The following local students from Potomac graduated from the University of Hartford in May 2012:

Matthew McElroy graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.

Alana Zaret graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in cinema.

Jordan DeLisser, John Jankosky, Colleen Krizan, Celia Lichtman, and Neffetara Morris, of Potomac, have been named to the dean’s list at Frostburg State University in recognition of outstanding academic achievement for the spring 2012 semester.

Julie Fainberg of Potomac was named to the dean’s list at the Florida Institute of Technology for the spring semester of 2012.

Jason M. Fish, Melissa M. Guzowski, and Meraz S. Mostafa, of Potomac, were named to the dean’s list for the spring 2012 semester at the University of Vermont.

Sean Tate of Potomac graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University with a bachelor of arts degree on May 13,

Alysha Howar, a sophomore, was named to the dean's list at University of Mary Washington for the spring semester of the 2011-2012 academic year.

The following Potomac students have earned the distinction of dean's list at the Georgia Institute of Technology for spring semester 2012: Erik Mulchandani and Mariel Rezende.

Stefani Chow of Potomac made the dean's list at DePaul University for the winter quarter of 2012.

The following local students graduated from University of Vermont on May 20:

• Jillian C. Catoe of Potomac received a bachelor of arts in communication science.
• Stephen M. Kent of Potomac received a bachelor of arts in history.
• Harris S. Middel of Potomac received a bachelor of arts in business administration.

Bucknell University has conferred bachelor's and master's degrees to the following local students on May 20:

• Katherine A. Brown, Potomac, daughter of Russell and Barbara Brown of Potomac, and a 2008 graduate of Winston Churchill High school, graduated cum laude with a bachelor of arts in history and departmental honors in history
• Hannah L. Davis, Potomac, daughter of Joseph and Sarah Davis of Potomac, and a 2008 graduate of Saint Andrews Episcopal School, graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor of arts in economics and Spanish.
• Emily C. Fiuzat, Potomac, daughter of Homer and Cynthia Fiuzat of Potomac, and a 2008 graduate of Saint Andrew's Episcopal School, graduated with a bachelor of science in neuroscience.
• Cynthia A. Iselin, Potomac, daughter of Amy Iselin of Potomac, and Richard Iselin of Reston, and a 2008 graduate of Winston Churchill High School, graduated cum laude with a bachelor of arts in psychology and education.

Some 20 Montgomery County Public Schools students have received college- and university-sponsored National Merit Scholarships in the latest round of awards. These awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the institution financing the scholarship. The winners, their intended career fields and the sponsoring university or college are:

• Winston Churchill High School: Ariel Lai, University of Maryland, computer programming; Cindy Yiin, University of Southern California, architecture;
• Walt Whitman High School: Nathaniel T. Rabner, University of Maryland, journalism;
• Thomas S. Wootton High School: Meghna Ramaswamy, University of Maryland, medicine; Christopher Y. Wong, University of Maryland, materials science/engineering; Narain S. Krishnamurthy, University of Maryland, quantitative finance.

Sammer Eghtesadi of Potomac, has been named to the spring semester dean’s list at Radford University. He is a senior social science major.

olorado College awarded 525 undergraduate degrees and five master of arts in teaching degrees at its 130th commencement ceremony, held on May 21 outdoors on Armstrong Quad. Avery Uslaner graduated with a bachelor's degree in Biology . Uslaner is the son of Ric and Debbie Uslaner of Potomac

David Lee, the son of Chunqing Lei of Potomac, was recognized for outstanding achievement at Randolph-Macon Academy (R-MA) at the school's first end-of-year awards ceremony on May 14, 2012. David was recognized as a member of "The Academy's Own" for assisting the Admission Department.

Page Erickson of Potomac has been named to the President's List at Clemson University for the spring 2012 semester. Erickson is majoring in Marketing.

Megan Weis, a resident of Potomac received a Bachelor of Science degree from Fairfield University’s College of Art and Sciences on May 20 at its 62nd Commencement ceremony.

Brian Stevens of Potomac graduated and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Union College during its 218th Commencement exercises.

Amy Cutler of Potomac has been named to the Dean’s List at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, for the spring 2012 semester.

Potomac area residents Jacqueline Allen, Daniel Lader and Jimena Lazarte were named to the Dean’s List at Salisbury University for the Spring 2012 semester.

Potomac area residents Matthew McElroy and Rebecca Bader were named to the Dean’s List at The University of Hartford for the spring 2012 semester.

Several Potomac residents have been named to the Dean’s List at Clemson University for the spring 2012 semester including Kelly Ann Johnson, Accounting major and William Ashbrook Patch III, Financial Management major.

The following student was among the 218 graduates from the Loomis Chaffee Class of 2012:

William Lewis of Potomac, received Mathematics Department Honors, was an Exhibited Student Artist for oil painting, and was a member of the Barbeque club, the LC Superfans club, and the Not Using Tonight Students club (NUTS). He was also a member of the Boys Varsity Basketball team. He will matriculate at Denison University.

This Potomac resident was among the seniors who graduated from Colby College May 20, receiving a bachelor of arts degree at the outdoor commencement in Waterville, Maine:

Abbey P. Wallace of Potomac, the daughter of Richard and Anne Wallace of Potomac, majored in global studies and anthropology and is a graduate of St. Andrews Episcopal School.

Notre Dame of Maryland University celebrated a historic commencement on May 26, its first as a University and the final official event of Dr. Mary Pat Seurkamp’s 15-year presidency. Reine-Ines Djama of Potomac was awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business, Cum Laude.

The Washington Post Young Journalists Development Program (YJDP) would like to congratulate this year’s accepted participants in The Washington Post YJDP Digital Workshop. Eleven local high school journalists will participate in a free weeklong online journalism workshop and gain the opportunity to work closely with journalists from The Washington Post to sharpen their skills as multiplatform journalists. Workshop topics to include beginner and intermediate level news writing, story development, interviewing, reporting, video editing and more. Participants were selected based on a combination of relevant experience, writing samples and recommendations. The 2012 participants are:

Joe Sageman, Bullis School (Potomac, MD)

Rounding out the list of participants is Carolyn Conte of Bishop McNamara High School in Forestville, MD. Carolyn has the distinct honor of being named the Emerging Young Journalists award winner during the first annual Washington Post YJDP Awards. The Washington Post YJDP Awards acknowledged four local journalists and advisers for significant achievements and contributions to high school journalism in the Washington area. Winners were chosen by a selection committee consisting of mentors and reporters from The Washington Post at an award ceremony in May 2012.

Students from your area were named to the Southern Methodist University undergraduate honor roll for the Spring 2012 semester. Michelle Marriott, a resident of Potomac and a first year at SMU, was named to the honor roll which includes students in the top 15 percentile.

Gettysburg College students with a quality point average of 3.33 or higher for a semester's work are placed on the College's Deans' Commendation List. Patricia Atwater of Potomac, has been placed the Deans' Commendation List for outstanding academic achievement in the Spring 2012.

Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) students have received National Merit Scholarships in the latest round of awards sponsored by universities and colleges. The latest winners, their intended career fields and the sponsoring university or college are:

Winston Churchill High School: Joshua D. Preuss, University of Maryland, mechanical engineering

Walt Whitman High School: Elizabeth N. Bartlett, Vanderbilt University, music

Thomas S. Wootton High School: Alice Jenlin Chang, The University of Chicago, economics; Catherine Ji, University of Southern California, engineering

The following Potomac residents have been named to the Cornell University College of Arts and Sciences' Dean's List for Spring Semester 2012: Lucas Chang, Casey Ebner, Vesna Harasi, Elizabeth Kaufman, Dina Khatib, Samantha Miller, Elizabeth Rust, and Daniel Tsoy.

Chun Yeh, of Potomac, has earned academic honors at Purdue University for the spring 2012 semester.
